“Alice and Steve” has been picked up for a second season at Disney+ and Hulu.

The comedy — which airs on Disney+ in the U.K. and Ireland and on Disney+ and Hulu in the U.S. — follows Alice (Nicola Walker), who is devastated when her best friend Steve (Jemaine Clement) starts dating her 26-year-old daughter Izzy (Yali Topol Margalith). 

“She’s going to lose her best friend and her daughter in one fell swoop,” the synopsis reads. “Alice tries everything she can to end the relationship. Unfortunately for her, Steve’s more than ready for the attack, and what begins as a perfect friendship, devolves into an all-out feud.”

Variety praised the first season, with critic Alison Herman calling Walker and Clement a “hilarious” duo. “The lived-in platonic chemistry between Walker and Clement is the show’s highlight and its foundation, keeping the action anchored in something wholesome amid some abominable behavior on both sides of the friends’ growing rift,” Herman wrote.

“I am so thrilled that ‘Alice and Steve’ has been given a second season,” creator and writer Sophie Goodhart said in a statement. “No one will be prepared for what happens next, especially not Alice and Steve.”

“Alice and Steve” is executive produced by Petra Fried, Sophie Gardiner and Wim de Greef, with co-executive producer Rachael Stephenson for Clerkenwell Films, which is part of BBC Studios. The series was commissioned by Lee Mason, VP of scripted at Disney+ EMEA.

“We absolutely love ‘Alice and Steve’ — both the show and of course the two characters at the heart of Sophie’s brilliantly messy, funny and fearless exploration of friendship and love,” Fried said. “We’re thrilled to be bringing it back for a second season and can’t wait for audiences to see what Sophie has in store for our favorite frenemies.”

Added Mason: “It’s been fantastic to see the rapturous reactions to ‘Alice and Steve’ from viewers at home. Sophie has created a distinctive and original comedy, striking a chord and sparking debate with audiences across the country. I’m excited to see what mayhem Sophie and Clerkenwell have in store for our titular characters after that delicious cliffhanger — but we can expect more laughs, betrayal and bad decisions in Season 2.”
