Bill Maher blasted Cornell University, his alma mater, and called for the abolition of all fraternities amid the “Cornell 7” saga in a scathing segment on his HBO show.

The late-night comedian had a sobering assessment of Greek life, saying: “Any place that’s all male, no girls allowed, just doesn’t function without depravity. Just ask the Catholic Church. Ask the Taliban.”

Maher, who graduated from the Ithaca-based Ivy league in 1978, added: “Everything that’s inherently bad about men gets worse if you put them in a fraternity.”

“The drinking gets worse, the cruelty, the treatment of women, the tribalism, the peer pressure, the one-upmanship, conformity, segregation, nepotism, bullying, elitism and just general a–holery…boat shoes, for example,” he said on Friday’s episode of “Real Time with Bill Maher.”

“Human nature is bad, and the best we can do is create institutions that don’t make it easy to be worse,” Maher added. “And a great place to start would be getting rid of Greek life.”

The funnyan is just the latest celebrity to speak out on the shocking September lawsuit filed by “Jane Doe,” a former Cornell student who accused seven Chi Phi brothers at the uni of gang raping her at a frat party in October 2024 after she was plied with alcohol and ketamine. Her lawsuit accused the university of failing to protect her.

The “alleged gang rape at the Cornell frat house is deeply disturbing,” Maher said. “But since it’s my alma mater, where I walked those hallowed halls for four years with so many memories, I don’t want to let my personal feelings get in the way…b ecause they’re all bad.

“Cornell sucks and I f–king hated it,” he added. “I’m glad to see them eating a s–t sandwich. It’s true. Also, this s–t could have happened anywhere there are fraternities, because it happens everywhere there are fraternities.”

Maher nodded to several fraternity mission statements that repeatedly mention the importance of being a “gentlemen,” before tearing into the behavior of the alleged Cornell rapists.

“A young woman made a bad decision, as 20-year-olds do, when she went to a frat house drunk and did ketamine,” he said. “And for that, she claims to have paid a price no woman should have to pay.”

“No one was there,” he said, arguing that no one knows the details of what happened that night – “but I do know what a gentleman is – a gentleman is someone who in that situation doesn’t exploit the woman; he saves her.”

Maher also slammed fraternities for their history of dangerous hazing rituals, noting that there have been 128 hazing-related deaths since 2000, according to HazingInfo, which tracks such incidents.

Last month, two leaders of an underground University of Wisconsin-Madison frat were arrested and charged with hazing after 30 partially-clothed teen pledges were found covered in condiments and huddled in a sweltering, filthy basement.

Maher also called for an end to sororities, calling them “b—h factories producing the Karens of tomorrow.” He argued the women-only houses fuel “cliques, popularity contests, mean girl-ism, social climbing, insecurity, backstabbing, bodyshaming.”

In the “Cornell 7” case, Doe claimed she agreed to a threesome with two of the frat members, but the situation got out of control after one of them texted a group chat announcing there was “free p—y” in their frat house. Various members allegedly entered the room to rape Doe and snort ketamine off her body, she claimed.

Doe initially referred to the sex as consensual, but three weeks later reported it as rape after her friends said she realized she had been allegedly sexually assaulted.

Local prosecutors declined to bring charges at the time, citing Doe’s statement to police that the initial drugs and alcohol she had that night were taken willingly.

An internal Cornell investigation found two of the frat members were responsible for sexual assault, and they were expelled. The other five received lesser punishments, allegedly including writing essays to the school to reduce their disciplinary action, according to Doe’s attorney.

New York Attorney General Letitia James has been appointed by Gov. Kathy Hochul as a special prosecutor to the reopened case.
