Reason Rescue Dog Unmakes the Bed Every Day Melts Hearts

Like many of us, one dog owner always makes the bed before starting her day, but for a long time, she couldn't work out why it was mysteriously unmade shortly after. The mystery has finally been solved, as she discovered who the four-legged culprit was.

In a hilarious TikTok video, Sophie Gallagher revealed the moment she lifted the covers to find her 18-month-old dog, Dot, hidden beneath the quilt. It doesn't matter how long Gallagher spends making sure the bed looks pristine, because Dot just loves to "treat herself to a daily lie-in [late rise]."

Gallagher told Newsweek that she had been blaming her boyfriend for messing up the freshly made bed, but now she realizes "the Queen was undoing it to tuck herself in." Ever since she rescued Dot in December 2022, she has made herself comfortable in the bed at night, but sometimes that isn't enough for the pup, who will stay there "all day if she wants."

Upon finding her dog under the covers, Gallagher, from County Wicklow, Ireland, couldn't resist sharing the video on TikTok (@sophieg903), and it has already gained over 85,600 views and more than 10,200 likes in a matter of days.

Gallagher added: "I work from home on a Monday, Thursday, and Friday, so, after she's come running with me in the morning, she will bring herself back to bed and tuck herself under the covers.

"She spends as much time as she likes in the bed, and we have accepted the fact that it's now her bed, too. I can't get angry at her because it's just too funny. We are so lucky to have such a humorous dog."

This may be a familiar behavior for many owners, but the American Kennel Club (AKC) says that dogs often do it for a variety of different reasons. For some pups, it could be a sign of anxiety, or perhaps they are not feeling well, so they seek safety in the bed. However, some dogs may simply love the companionship and warmth the bed provides.

It is certainly adorable, but the AKC adds that it should be easy for the dog to get out when they are ready, as they can get too hot or become anxious.

Rescuing the whippet and border collie mix has been a hugely rewarding experience for Gallagher, who now encourages anyone else to consider adopting a dog if possible. As she has discovered with Dot, the bond between a rescue canine and their owner is unlike any other, and it is certainly worth putting up with a messy bed.

"There is such satisfaction in giving a dog who was neglected the best-possible life, with endless cuddles, lie-ins, walks and treats galore," Gallagher said.

After finding Dot in bed, Gallagher couldn't even be mad as she said that "she deserves it." Many social-media users couldn't have agreed more; since going viral, Dot's quest for more sleep has gained plenty of support.

Gallagher has been amazed by the reaction to her video, as she told Newsweek: "I didn't think the video would get any attention. It was really just for my own documentation of all our funny memories with Dot, but the response has been hilarious."

The viral post has already gained many comments from people who lauded Dot's grit and determination to ensure she gets that extra sleep. One comment reads: "Oh to be dog napping in my humans bed."

Another person joked: "Gotta love them, personal space does not apply."

A third TikTok user responded: "a Queen and she knows it. Rescues are the best."
