Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams is entering the season with a ton of hype in his second year of head coach Ben Johnson's system.

The Bears, after having a defensive head coach in Matt Eberflus, went and hired an offensive guru in Johnson, poaching him from the NFC North rival Detroit Lions.

In their first year together, Johnson and Williams were such a tantalizing combination. Johnson had easy, designed plays, while Williams could improvise when things went wrong.

With a talented quarterback and a high-caliber play designer, they could produce well. Now in their second year, things are looking noticeably better.

Bears insider Carmen Vitali, who has long covered the team, said on "The Mina Kimes Show" that the difference between the first training camp and the second one this year is stark.

"It is night and day.....The decisiveness of Caleb Williams is palpable. The way that he just gets into the huddle and he communicates what he needs to," Vitali said.

"And you can see his eyes moving. You can see his head move. Like he knows what he's supposed to do. And that was night and day from last year."

She noted that heading into the 2025 season, Johnson wanted to find the limits for Williams and work around them, and he wanted to accomplish that by throwing Williams as much as possible.

It produced a 3,942-yard season in 2025, along with 27 touchdowns. He completed 58.1% of his passes, a figure low compared to Johnson's previous quarterback, Jared Goff.

In the second year, Williams has found a comfort zone while Johnson understands how his quarterback works, allowing for better harmony.

It may take another year before things gel, but considering how little time they have spent together, the Bears will be glad to have their two most important people in their organization building and progressing as a pair.
