Before the Detroit Lions hosted the Green Bay Packers at Ford Field on Sunday afternoon, quarterback Jared Goff was going to need all the support he could get.

That includes members of the church.

Before Goff suited up for pregame, he was circled around by five nuns who were his high school teachers at Marin County Catholic School, located in Kentfield, Calif.

Goff played high school football at Marin Catholic from 2010-2013, where he was a three-sport varsity athlete in football, basketball, and baseball.

For the 2012-2013 season, Goff stuck to football and led his team to a CIF State Championship appearance, as well as playing for a NorCal State Championship.

Sister Miriam, who was one of the teachers attended the game, said this past summer, she always knew Goff was bound to play in the NFL, because of his ability to “Stay calm and cool, he thinks like the coach. There’s a prudence out there.”

The next year, he went across to the East Bay and enrolled at California, where he would be the team’s starting quarterback for the next three years.

After throwing for over 12,200 yards with 96 touchdowns, Goff was drafted as the No.1 overall pick of the 2016 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Rams, where he led the team to a Super Bowl appearance in 2018.

His time in Los Angeles would end shortly after the Super Bowl trip as he was traded to the Lions before the 2021 season.

In 2024, Goff was on the verge of reaching his second Super Bowl, but would have to travel to San Francisco to play the 49ers.

Detroit ended up losing that game 34-31 and has not been back to the NFC Championship since.

Through five games this year, the Lions are sitting in last place in the NFC North division with a 3-2 record.

Goff has thrown for 1,485 yards this year with 12 touchdowns.

After losing both games to Green Bay last season, the Lions are looking for their first win against the Packers since December, 5, 2024.
