Outfielders Zyhir Hope and Kendall George were scratched from the lineup of the Tulsa Drillers, the Los Angeles Dodgers' Double-A affiliate, on Aug. 1. With two days remaining before the MLB trade deadline, such last-minute decisions are often a precursor to a trade.

In 2021, the Dodgers scratched catcher Keibert Ruiz from their Triple-A lineup just before sending him to the Washington Nationals for pitcher Max Scherzer and shortstop Trea Turner.

Jon Heyman of the New York Post reported that Hope is "on standby in case of a trade."

The question, then, is not if the Dodgers will make a trade in the next 45 hours, but when — and which teams and players will be involved.

Jack Harris of the California Post reported Aug. 1 that "nothing (is) known to be imminent for now."

Still, considering six of the Dodgers' Top 10 prospects (according to MLB Pipeline) are outfielders, it makes sense that at least two of them would be involved in trade talks.

Hope, 21, has a .293/.369/.530 slash line at Tulsa, with 23 home runs and 87 RBIs, as well as 18 stolen bases. George, 21, has a .332/.418/.399 slash line for the Drillers, with 33 stolen bases.

Outfielder Josue De Paula, the No. 1 prospect in the Dodgers' system, and a consensus Top-10 prospect in all of baseball, is in the Drillers' lineup Saturday against the Northwest Arkansas Naturals.

Detroit Tigers pitcher Tarik Skubal is the prize of the trade deadline. The Dodgers are on a short list of contending teams who possess the prospect capital to acquire Skubal, as they pursue their third consecutive World Series championship.

Skubal, the two-time defending American League Cy Young Award winner, is a free agent after the season. But the cost to acquire him is "enormous," according to Heyman.

Hope and George could be part of a package for Skubal, a different player, or be subjects of separate conversations with separate teams.

Either way, they're not playing with two days to go before the deadline — and could be packing behind the scenes.
