All Summer NBA teams work to get better, players working on their craft, coaches and management staff working to put together the best possible roster and scheme, and then there is the fans and media putting their opinions out on the internet for the World to see.

But until we hit the basketball court, none of that matters. The process and the work of the Summer is set out to endure a full 82-game season, with the ultimate goal of playing into the Summer and hoisting the Larry O'Brien Trophy.

While every team is at different stages of that process, that end goal will never change, for any stakeholder, in any organization.

The Miami Heat have been right in the middle of the offseason discussion, much in thanks to making the biggest move of the offseason, acquiring future Hall of Famer Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Miami HEAT’s league ranking after 4 preseason games:

- 1st in PPG (131.3)
- 1st in FGM (45.3)
- 1st in Pace (107.78)
- 2nd ORTG (121.3)
- 2nd in FG% (50.1)
- 3rd in APG (31.8)
- 4th in +/- (11.0)
- 4th in TS% (61.5)

The preseason gave us a glimpse to what the Miami Heat could be, and what I believe they will be. Their defense first, fast paced style is going to wear teams out, and Miami's goal is to winner not only the battle on the box score, nor the physical battle, but the mental battle.

The Miami Heat roster is full of high IQ, defensive minded basketball players that have bought into head coach Erik Spoelstra's system. I have already predicted Miami to have a top 5 defense in the National Basketball Association, and the last time they did that was the 21/22 season when they were 5th in defensive rating and won 53 games. That team didn't have a player of Antetokounmpo's caliber, and they certianly didn't have the depth that this roster has.

But that 53-29 mark is exactly where I am going to predict the Heat to finish, as the East's third seed. The Eastern Conference has just gotten so much better this offseason and Miami still has to surpass the teams that have earned the East's respect over the past few seasons.

A top-3 seed in the East would give Miami a strong chance to advance in the playoffs and would be a great start to the Antetokounmpo era.

Now for the opinions of others here OnSi.

Heat record prediction: 52-30

Call me an optimist!

Prognosticating the East was impossible, especially with 25-27 teams around the NBA trying to win under the new lottery structure. That said, I have the Heat earning the No. 1 seed in the East at 52-30; for what it’s worth, I also have the Knicks going 52-30, but I have Miami winning the tiebreaker.

If you’re a top-5 defense, recent history suggests you clear the 45-win threshold fairly easily; 19 have won at least 50 games over the last five years. And I think Miami will have a top-5 defense, led by Bam Adebayo, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Pelle Larsson and Andrew Wiggins. Miami is going to run, rebound, defend and play complementary basketball; it will be a difficult out each and every night.

Of course, this outlook is predicated on Antetokounmpo’s health, which is a big question mark in itself. If he doesn’t play at least 50-55 games, there’s no chance that Miami cracks 50 wins. But I think he will be rejuvenated — and hungry — heading into his 14th season."

Heat record: 50-32
Miami finished 13th in defensive rating last season and just added a former Defensive Player of the Year without giving up their best defender, and a top-five defense wins 50 games almost by default.

The offense doesn't need to be elite, it just needs to stop wasting possessions: they led the league in transition points last year while ranking 23rd in transition efficiency,

Health is the key for everybody! The 50 wins assumes Miami gets 65 games from Giannis.

Heat record: 49-33

When the Miami Heat add a superstar, over the past three decades, they have instant success. It took until the second season of Alonzo Mourning -- after Tim Hardaway Sr. had a full training camp -- for the Heat to take off in the late 1990s, but they did, winning 61 games in their first full season together. First season with Shaquille O'Neal? 59 wins, and what would have been an NBA Finals appearance if Dwyane Wade hadn't pulled a ribcage muscle in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals against Detroit. The Big 3? Even after a befuddling 9-8 start, they finished second in the East, and beat top-seeded Chicago to go to the NBA Finals before LeBron James forgot who he was. And in Jimmy Butler's first season, Miami settled into a fifth seed but roared to the NBA Finals in the Bubble.

So why aren't I projecting 50-plus wins now?

It's simply due to the strength of the Eastern Conference, something we haven't said for about a quarter-century. There will be few easy nights; there's no incentive to tank, and every one of the top 10 teams has a solid starting group. But Miami will be good, and likely from the open, since they should be connected defensively and they're playing a speed-based style that won't be fun to guard on a random Tuesday night. So high 40s feels about right, especially if you account for Giannis missing about 15 games, and the Heat likely struggling to play .500 without him.
