The Rams released kicker Harrison Mevis and now it may be clear as to why.

It’s no secret that Mevis was struggling to start the 2026 season. The Rams kicker went 5-for-9 (55.6%), including 3-for-6 on field goal attempts from 40-49 yards and 0-for-1 on field goal attempts beyond 50 yards.

Mevis missed a 50-yard field goal attempt in the first quarter of Monday’s game against the Bills and his field goal attempt in overtime was blocked, which would have given the Rams a victory in Week 5. But it was the 24-year-old’s actions after the game that were called into question.

Former Rams offensive lineman Andrew Whitworth, who won a Super Bowl with LA in 2021, blasted Mevis in a compelling rant.

Whit has some thoughts on Mevis and the end of Monday Night Football:

“The biggest thing that irritates me… If you are in the mood to laugh with some Bills players after the game… when you see that after the game, it’s like hey man maybe it’s not a fit” pic.twitter.com/lEUM8ELui6

“The biggest thing that just irritates me, I’m still salty about it. It’s one thing to have some of these kicks missed, and Harrison Mevis obviously this year it’s been a struggle. But like postgame I’m watching him he’s laughing and keekeeing with guys. I don’t mean to get like this, but I do,” Whitworth said.

“When I messed up, if I gave up a sack at the end of the game or a pressure or whatever, the first thing I’m doing is running to the locker room. And I’m gonna be so pissed off I don’t wanna talk to nobody. I’m just sitting there going like, if I missed a kick or if I missed two kicks…I don’t understand it.

“The identity and the mentality of football teams that are really good usually match up. You go look at the teams that lose a lot, I can show you a lot of guys that don’t always show they care the most. But if you are like in the mood to go laugh and keekee with some Bills players after the game, you don’t match up to the head coach’s mentality.”
