A Fresno County employee was stabbed in broad daylight Thursday at a downtown park.
The stabbing unfolded around 1:13 p.m. at Courthouse Park, according to the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies assigned to the nearby courthouse raced outside after reports of the attack and rushed to help the male victim, who was identified as a Fresno County employee.

He was awake and talking when he was transported, though his exact condition was not immediately known.
About three minutes after the stabbing, a deputy spotted a man in his 50s near Van Ness Avenue and Fresno Street, in the park’s northwest corner.
Deputies used a Taser to take the suspect down and detain him.

Sheriff John Zanoni said the victim was simply going about his daily work when he was attacked.
Investigators are now working to determine what sparked the violence and whether the employee was specifically targeted.
Zanoni described the stabbing as “unprovoked.”
The suspect is expected to be taken to a hospital before being booked into the Fresno County Jail, officials said.
The investigation remains ongoing.
