We live in a digital world where capturing every moment on camera and sharing it to social media is the norm. From pictures of food, pets to milestones, there isn't much people hide from the internet these days.

Claudia DiMopoulous (@claudiadimopoulos) has recently gone viral online after sharing a clip of her and her partner performing a popular TikTok trend. However, there's a twist.

The video shows the couple standing in front of a mountainous landscape, crossing their legs, and then placing her hand in his—a routine that TikTok users are likely familiar with. However, the video doesn't end there, with the man refusing to let go of his girlfriend's hand.

The on-screen text explained: "I thought we were filming a TikTok trend, turns out he has something else planned for us instead."

The boyfriend then gets on one knee and proposes while the Mont-Tremblant, Quebec-based couple are on vacation in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Newsweek discussed the video, which has 4.1 million views, with Zoe Burke, a U.K.-based wedding expert and editor of Hitched.co.uk.

She said: "Social media has definitely had an impact on the proposal for many couples—if you are the kind of couple that enjoy using social media and regularly post on it, it's hard not to be impacted by it!

"A lot of wedding and wedding-adjacent events are now curated with social content being a consideration—it's not the main factor, but couples are definitely conscious of how it will look and perform online.

"As these networks become ever more a part of our lives, it's only natural that they'll form part of our significant life events"

Nowadays, it isn't just the proposal that is posted online. Many couples share every moment of their journey, from selecting the ring to planning the entire wedding.

This documentation often plays a major part in many people's stories. But it doesn't stop there, some couples have met through platforms like Instagram and TikTok, according to Hitched.co.uk. A 2023 national wedding survey revealed that a third of 1,800 couples met online and 62 percent announced their engagement on social media.

So far, the video, shared on March 9, has racked up 478,000 likes and almost 1,500 comments.

One user said: "All I do is come on this app and shed happy tears for the strangers on the internet."

"I'm literally crying watching, like awww this is so cute but like also when is it my turn!" said another.

A third commenter said: "This was absolutely perfect. Congratulations!!!"
