Disney teased the first look at the upcoming “Lilo & Stitch” live-action sequel at D23 in Anaheim on Friday night. Stitch’s love interest Angel, a pink alien, was shown in a new image with glowing antennae.

Maia Kealoha, who plays Lilo, came onstage to introduce the film as a fuzzy Stitch waved to the crowd from onscreen.

Angel, known as Experiment 624, is known for her siren song, which can turn reformed experiments back to evil. She was introduced in “Lilo & Stitch: The Series”

Chris Sanders, who voices the character of Stitch and co-directed the original animated movie, is returning to direct the new movie, which is set for a May 28, 2028 releae.

The follow-up was announced by Disney about one month after the “Lilo & Stitch” remake released to theaters, earning more than $1 billion at the global box office.

Camp, who directed the first film, spoke with Variety about potentially returning for a sequel in an interview promoting the original: “If it was the right idea. I wouldn’t do it just because there’s a new market demand for it. But I also really like the idea of doing an animated spin-off as an episodic or limited series.”

Disney revealed plans for a sequel on June 26, aka 6/26 — a reference to Stitch’s government name, Experiment 626. The original film follows the story of a young Hawaiian girl, Lilo (Maia Kealoha), who yearns to have a best friend. Enter a rambunctious alien, who crash-lands on Earth just when Lilo needs him the most.

Disney has yet to announce any further news surrounding the film, but speaking about Chris Sanders, the original voice of Stitch, Camp revealed, “That was one of the first conversations. I made sure to get that assurance before I even said yes to the project. I was like, ‘Chris Sanders.’ And they said, ‘Yeah, he’s eager to come back,’ so working with him was a dream.”

The first film was originally meant to be a direct-to-streaming title for Disney+, but plans changed to give it a theatrical release. Speaking about that shift, Camp said, “I and the other filmmakers always believed that it could be a big, perfect summer blockbuster to go see on a huge screen. I’m proud of how hard it delivers on that. It’s super funny, it’s action-packed, and it’s super emotional.”
