Less than a week after Mark Walter agreed to sell the Lakers to Josh Kushner and Bob Iger, he’s looking to sell another one of his stakes in a sports franchise.

Walter and his business partner, Todd Boehly, are looking to sell their stakes in Chelsea Football Club to majority owner Clearlake Capital, the Financial Times reported Monday.

Walter and Boehly are minority owners of Chelsea.

They bought their stakes in May 2022 when BlueCo, which is a consortium led by Boehly and Clearlake Capital purchased the English soccer team from Roman Abramovich.

The news comes amid a federal investigation into Walter and some of his business practices. It was recently reported that the FBI seized Walter’s phone and laptop, as well as a top Guggenheim Investments executive last year.

That news prompted speculation that the Lakers sale was a quick way to liquify assets for any potential legal troubles facing Walter.

This is a developing story with more to follow.
