Phoenix Suns Injury Report: 2 Guards Will Sit Out Critical 76ers Clash

The 39-29 Phoenix Suns are struggling down the home stretch of the 2023-24 NBA season. Today, they're scheduled to face off against an injury-riddled Philadelphia 76ers club. But Phoenix will have its own health problems, too. Duane Rankin of The Arizona Republic reveals that forward Bol Bol is expected to suit up, as he grapples with an ankle injury. Two Phoenix guards, however, won't be so lucky. Josh Okogie will stay on the shelf with an abdominal injury, while Damion Lee remains sidelined due to his knee issue.

The Suns are just 0.5 games behind the sixth-seeded Sacramento Kings as things stand right now. The 42-25 LA Clippers and the 42-26 New Orleans Pelicans have created a bit more separation, and are currently 3.5 and three games ahead of Phoenix in the Western Conference standings, respectively. Point being, the eighth-seeded Suns have a legitimate shot at rising out of the play-in tournament bracket, but the club needs to improve down the home stretch. The Suns have gone just 5-5 across their last ten bouts.

Okogie is the club's bigger loss. The 6'4" shooting guard has been out since March 2nd. Across the 54 contests he's played this season (11 starts), Okogie is averaging a scant 4.9 points while connecting on 41.7% shooting from the floor and 74% shooting from the foul line, 2.7 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 0.9 steals a night. Lee, meanwhile, has been unavailable since injuring his right meniscus ahead of the start of the 2023-24 season.

Last month, head coach Frank Vogel indicated that Phoenix is hoping Lee will be able to return to the hardwood at some point this year. With just 14 games remaining on the Suns' slate (and considering he's been ruled out for one of those games already), he's running out of time to do that. During his first season with Phoenix last year, Lee played in 74 contests (five starts). He averaged 8.2 points on .442/.445/.904 shooting splits, three rebounds, and 1.3 dimes across 20.4 minutes off the bench.

The 6'6" swingman went undrafted out of Louisville in 2016. He spent two seasons in the G League, while playing for the Boston Celtics' NBAGL affiliate, the then-Maine Red Claws (now the less-creatively titled Maine Celtics) and the Golden State Warriors' Santa Cruz affiliate club. Lee eventually latched on with the Atlanta Hawks during 2017-2018, before spending four seasons with the Dubs.
