Ten years after his appearance on The Bachelor, reality star Juan Pablo Galavis returned to TV screens to support his teenage daughter’s audition on Season 22 of ABC‘s American Idol.

Camila Galavis, a fourteen-year-old high school student living in Miami, auditioned on Sunday (March 24) night’s episode for star judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie.

When asked by Perry if she came from a musical family, the singer revealed that she was the daughter of Juan Pablo. The Bachelor star appeared on screen and watched proudly as his daughter auditioned.

Camila surprised judges by singing “Rabia,” a Spanish song by Joaquina.

While the judges loved Camila’ personality, they initially agreed that her voice was too young and inexperienced to move forward in the singing competition.

“You’ve got a good voice. It sounds a little young,” Perry said. “I’m just looking for some of those notes that could come out and really compete with the other contestants.”

Bryan agreed, saying, “I think your biggest hurdle is the big high notes are still giving you a little bit of trouble. I mean, you’re so young. I just don’t know if it’s ready yet.”

But ultimately, Perry and Bryan both said yes to moving the singer to the next round.

“You’ve got a pop voice. The biggest growing genre in music is Spanish music,” Perry said. “You are authentically that, so it’s a yes for me.”

Bryan added, “I wrote no on my page, but then I told you the right producer could make you a hit song. So, I’m giving you a yes just based on that because you got a radio tone.”

But Richie disagreed, advising her to “take the time and develop [her] voice.”

Still, with two out of three yes’s from the judges, Camila was awarded a golden ticket to Hollywood. Her father, appearing teary-eyed, clapped in excitement as she thanked the judges.

Scroll up to watch Camila’s audition. American Idol airs Sundays at 8/7c on ABC and is available to stream on Hulu.
