Lost without each other! Taylor Hanson shares seven kids with wife Natalie Hanson (née Bryant) — and the longtime couple couldn’t be happier about their big brood.
“I think what’s really cool about bigger families is that everybody develops this innate ability to figure out how to compromise, work with others and realize that the entire world doesn’t revolve around you,” the musician told Today’s Parent in 2017. “It also encourages you to be an individual because you can clearly see your differences from a brother or sister. I see that with my kids: They’re very different, but I see that they love and respect one another.”
Taylor and Natalie, who have been married since June 2002, are the proud parents of son Ezra (born October 2002), daughter Penelope (born 2005), son River (born in September 2006), son Viggo (born December 2008), daughter Wilhelmina (born October 2012), Indiana (born December 2018) and daughter Maybellene (born December 2020).
The “Penny & Me” artist, for his part, grew up as one of seven. As fans know, the three eldest Hanson siblings — Isaac, Taylor and Zac — formed their titular band in 1992 when they were just children themselves. Now, the Hanson cousins are following in their dads’ footsteps. (Isaac shares sons Everett and Monroe and daughter Odette with wife Nicole Hanson, while Zac is the father of sons Shepherd, Abraham and Quincy and daughters Junia and Lucille, whom he shares with wife Kate Hanson.)
The trio’s kids — who often hit the road with their dads — are “talented and creative,” Isaac exclusively told Us Weekly in 2021. “We keep trying to discourage them against starting a band and warning them of all the possible pitfalls, but there’s a few guitar players and a couple keyboard players, so we’ll see! More than that, I think you want to encourage your kids to be the best that they can be and chase their skill sets and do something they feel good about in their life. If that passion is music, then we want them to go for it. If it’s performing surgery, then that’s fine too!”
As Taylor told Today’s Parent, “You’re part of a crew when you’re in a big family. You’re already included in a group. It gives you the sense that you have an identity that’s connected to something bigger.”

Taylor and Natalie met as teens while Hanson was on tour in Atlanta, Natalie’s hometown. While Zac met his wife, Kate Hanson (née Tucker) at the same show, Isaac went on to meet his wife Nikki Hanson (née Dufresne) a few years later at a Hanson concert in New Orleans.
Taylor and Natalie tied the knot in June 2002 and welcomed their first child, son Ezra, a few months later. Throughout the years, they expanded their family to include daughters Penelope, Wilhelmina and Maybellene, as well as sons River, Viggo and Indiana.
While raising their respective children, Natalie and Kate formed their own baby naming consultation business in 2020, called “Modern Moniker.” Two years later, Natalie and Taylor celebrated their 20-year anniversary.
“@taylorhanson Looking back today reminds me of all the wonderful people that have supported us with love for the past twenty years,” the former blogger wrote via Instagram at the time, alongside a photo from their wedding. “ Thank you to all of you, our sweet family and friends. We are the luckiest. ❤️🙏.”
Hanson fans who have followed the band since the ‘90s couldn’t believe when Ezra — the first of the third Hanson generation — celebrated his 20th birthday on Halloween 2022. “twenty 🥰,” Natalie captioned a photo of her eldest son, who sported a beard and long hair hidden under a baseball cap.
Penelope Hanson Penelope is Taylor and Natalie’s first-born daughter, and her dad frequently dedicates the Hanson song “Penny & Me” to his girl at shows. She has also followed in her dad’s activist footsteps, speaking out via social media against the execution of women in Iran.
Taylor told Today’s Parent in 2017 that his fifth child — born in October 2012 — is the perfect example of how being part of a big family can be incredibly fulfilling.
“You can see it in her sense of confidence: She is so comfortable being in situations because she sees a lot of love and feels safe,” he said of Willa. “She kind of looks around at the world and feels optimistic. In so many situations, she has somebody beside her that she trusts.”
The Hanson family welcomed their sixth child, son Indiana — nicknamed Indy — in December 2018. Two years later, little Indy got the hang of being a big brother when sister Maybellene was born in December 2020.
“Hey baby,” he said in a sweet video Natalie shared at the time, talking to his little sister while he held her and gave her a kiss.
“Biggest little surprise in a long time,” Taylor and Natalie wrote in a joint pregnancy announcement in September 2020. “Baby number seven coming this December🙏🏼❤️😊.”
Maybellene was indeed born in December of that year. Taylor soon wrote and dedicated the song “Sound Like Joy” to his littlest one, whose middle name is Joy.
