Sony’s PlayStation will launch a new Crunchyroll anime hub within its PlayStation 5 gaming console’s home screen next year to more closely align the company’s anime projects and anime-inspired games.

Launching in spring 2027, the new PS5 anime destination is “designed to make it easier for the PlayStation community to discover and explore the anime content they enjoy,” per Sony Interactive Entertainment.

While Crunchyroll has been accessible on the PS5 via an app since the gaming console was released in 2020, the goal here is to make Crunchyroll an integral part of a PlayStation user’s home-screen experience.

“Anime and gaming have deeply engaged and overlapping fan communities, and the new experience will bring those worlds closer together on PS5,” the Crunchyroll announcement reads. “Whether longtime anime fans or discovering a series through a game, character or world they already love, players will have a dedicated place to discover anime and anime-inspired games and easily access the full Crunchyroll app.

The PS5-Crunchyroll news was announced Wednesday by PlayStation president and CEO Hideaki Nishino at the inaugural Crunchyroll Anime Future Forum, where Sony also unveiled its new Crunchyroll Storyworks division.

“From Crunchyroll membership on PlayStation, to the upcoming Ghost of Tsushima: Legends anime series,” Crunchyroll president Rahul Purini said. “Today, we take that partnership with Sony Interactive Entertainment one step further with an anime hub on PlayStation. Serving fans means meeting them where they already are.”

The Crunchyroll-PlayStation integration comes on the heels of Sony launching “Live TV on PS5,” an offering of more than 100 free ad-supported video channels available via the PlayStation 5 video game console. The PlayStation 5 FAST channel offering debuted in August and Sony Pictures Television has plans to expand it globally in the coming months.
