RJ Mitte, who played Walter White Jr. on “Breaking Bad,” has died. He was 34.
A representative for Mitte confirmed the news to Variety. A cause of death was not immediately disclosed.
Mitte starred as the son of Bryan Cranston and Anna Gunn’s characters on the Vince Gilligan drama, which is considered one of the greatest television shows of all time. Like his “Breaking Bad” character Walt Jr., Mitte had cerebral palsy. His high-profile performance brought awareness to the condition, and throughout his acting career, he was an advocate for disability representation in Hollywood.
“It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of beloved actor, philanthropist, and passionate disability rights advocate RJ Mitte,” a representative for Mitte said in a statement. “Drawing from his own experience living with cerebral palsy, Mitte brought authenticity to the role and built a platform on disability awareness and inclusion.”
Mitte served as an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children’s, and he was the president of his own charity, the Mitte Foundation, which supported various philanthropic efforts while challenging stereotypes about people with disabilities.
Before he died, Mitte was actively promoting his new movie “Talking to Strangers,” appearing on podcasts just days ago.
Mitte also played Mind Master in the Netflix superhero series “The Guardians of Justice.” His credits also include 2017’s “The Recall” and 2020’s “The Oak Room.” He also had a recurring role on the series “Switched at Birth.” He had a handful of projects in pre-production and production phases.
Mitte was engaged to his long-term partner Kennedy Suarez, whom he dated since 2018.
Born in Jackson, Mississippi, Mitte suffered brain damage at birth and was then adopted. He was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at the age of 3.
