A sketch of Donald Trump's appearance in a New York City courtroom related to his hush money trial has sparked jokes and memes about him on social media.

The former president is facing 34 felony charges regarding falsified business records over hush money payments that were made to former adult film star Stormy Daniels weeks before the 2016 presidential election. Daniels alleged that she had an affair with Trump a decade prior, which he has denied. Prosecutors led by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg allege the payments were part of a scheme to stop potentially damaging stories about Trump from becoming public. In addition, prosecutors allege that Trump reimbursed his former lawyer Michael Cohen via a series of checks for "hush money" payments made to Daniels. Trump, meanwhile, has pleaded not guilty in the case.

Trump, the presumptive 2024 Republican presidential nominee, was in a New York City courtroom on Monday for a pre-trial hearing related to the criminal case. Prior to entering, the former president said: "This is a witch hunt. This is a hoax." His legal team is expected to appeal the hush money trial's April 15 start date in hope for yet another delay or to get the 34 felony counts thrown out altogether.

The court appearance also drew some notice on X, formerly Twitter, based on Trump's presence and the courtroom sketch, which was drawn by Jane Rosenberg. It shows the former president with a sheepish grin while seemingly looking directly in the artist's direction.

"When the edible hits," wrote journalist Aaron Rupar on X along with the photo.

"Winners of the day Trump and this sketch artist," wrote X user @benstanton77. "He needs to have this hung at MaraLago." In a separate post, @benstanton77 added a meme and wrote, "You can't make this up the sketch artist today made Trump into the literal Meme."

Multiple X users, like the account End Wokeness, referred to the sketch as an "instant classic."

"Today's courtroom sketch of President Trump is a classic," posted user @bubblebathgirl. "He's always winning, even when he's being persecuted."

"The courtroom sketch of Trump is next level," wrote X user Ian Miles Cheong.

Trump's courtroom sketches have been abundant, especially within the past year or so due to his multiple legal cases all occurring simultaneously. They have led to some scrutiny, namely from Trump supporters who have admonished the way Trump and his lawyer, Alina Habba, were depicted.

Meanwhile, Trump received good news as well on Monday when a New York appellate court ruled in his favor, lowering his $464 million bond amount to $175 million, providing him with 10 days to pay the amount before New York Attorney General Letitia James can place a lien on his properties.

The former president's legal team had argued in court that the previous bond amount was a "practical impossibility" to pay off due to the lack of bond companies interested in forking over that kind of money. The bond amount comes over one month after Judge Arthur Engoron ordered that Trump had to pay up for fraudulently inflating the value of his assets to obtain bank loans.

"We will abide by the decision of the Appellate Division, and post either a bond, equivalent securities, or cash," Trump wrote on Truth Social after the legal victory. "This also shows how ridiculous and outrageous Engoron's original decision was at $450 Million. I DID NOTHING WRONG, AND NEW YORK SHOULD NEVER BE PUT IN A POSITION LIKE THIS AGAIN. BUSINESSES ARE FLEEING, VIOLENT CRIME IS FLOURISHING, AND IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT THIS BE RESOLVED IN ITS TOTALITY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. THANK YOU!"
