Stars and art VIPs have been spotted at screenings of “La Bola Negra” — the Spanish period piece that’s being tipped as a possible Best Picture winner at the Oscars.
Sabrina Carpenter, Paul Simon, F. Murray Abraham, photographer Nan Goldin and Zachary Quinto have been seen at the Paris Theater and Angelika Film Center in NYC screening the movie. Also catching the film: comedian Matt Rogers, content creator Matt Bernstein and “Glee” star Kevin McHale.
The film by directors Javier Ambrossi and Javier Calvo is coming off festival wins in Toronto, San Sebastián, the Hamptons, Busan, Sydney, Santa Fe, Chicago, Minneapolis and more.
The Post called the film, “one of the best movies of the year,” earlier this month.
The Netflix movie has also broken box office records with the highest per-screen average ever for a Spanish film and the second-highest per-screen average for a non-English film ever, behind only the 2020 Best Picture winner “Parasite.”
The film, which Netflix bought in Cannes, expands in theaters this weekend.
The ambitious time-spanning feature follows the interconnected lives of three gay men across three eras — in 1932, 1937 and 2017. It’s inspired by the work of Spanish poet and playwright Federico García Lorca.
