Hugh Grant Laughs Off His 1995 Sex Scandal on ‘The View’: “Got Arrested with a Hooker”

After a rather cringey interview at the 2023 Oscars, Hugh Grant arrived at The View oozing with charm as he promoted his latest film, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. The actor even managed to turn one of his bigger PR disasters into a neat little joke on Thursday’s show.

During a discussion about his work campaigning against invasive practices by British tabloids, Grant revisited the sex scandal that made him infamous back in 1995.

“These people go really far in terms of invading privacy,” Sunny Hostin told her guest, referring to journalists that target celebrities for scoops.

Grant replied with a chuckle, “Yes, well, everyone thinks, ‘Oh, well, he’s just bitter because he got arrested with a hooker in 1995.'”

The audience and the panel erupted in laughter as Whoopi Goldberg chimed in, “But you know what, really, who hasn’t?”

Grant then clarified that the scandal “was never uncovered by tabloids,” explaining, “the bloody police gave everyone the information!”

Grant was arrested with a sex worker in June 1995 after he was found having sex with her in his car in Los Angeles. He later was slapped with a $1,000 fine and ordered to undergo AIDS education.

While Grant’s remarks about his arrest were certainly memorable, he began his interview with a similarly standout introduction, boldly admitting he wanted to kiss three of The View panelists.

Joking about his “difficult entrance” on the show, Grant asked, “There’s no kissing anymore, right? Kissing’s stopped?”

Joy Behar replied, “Yeah, because of COVID,” then asked, “Did you want to kiss us? Because if you want to kiss us, we’ll do it.”

Grant, looking coy as ever, shot back, “I wanted to kiss three of you.”

Who? We’ll never know!

The View airs weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
