5 Biggest Questions Still Unanswered Entering Commanders Preseason Week 2
The Washington Commanders find themselves in a position where they've learned quite a bit from training camp and the opening preseason game, but still have several of their more important roster questions unsettled. While injuries have certainly wreaked havoc, particularly in the trenches on both sides of the ball, along with the running back situation, other competition has just failed to supply a clear winner yet. Below are the five questions Saturday's second preseason game against the Detroit Lions can either begin answering or further complicate things when final roster cut-day arrives.

Hail Mail: Kick returners, soft tissue injuries and WR depth
@YSL2damnhigh: How comfortable is the staff that Trey Amos will be ready to go for Week 1 in Philly? He's practiced once since November 2025.
It seems like Amos is making good progress with his ankle, so hopefully he will be on the field soon and get a few more practices under him before Week 1.
But your question is a fair one, because that's a long time between games. I don't know how the Commanders will handle his ramp-up process if it goes into the season, but if it's anything like how they handled Brandon Coleman's recovery process two years ago, they aren't just going to throw him into the starting lineup. That wouldn't be fair to anyone. They'll likely ease him into things, giving him a handful of plays that will increase each week. Fortunately, the Commanders have players like Rasul Douglas and Amik Robertson who have looked impressive in camp, so the Commanders can afford to take their time with Amos.

Commanders Rookie QB Athan Kaliakmanis Making Strong Push Up Depth Chart
As is the case on most rosters around the league, Washington's evaluators have seen little reason to invest heavily in their quarterback depth beyond Daniels. But given the injuries and absences that decorated his sophomore campaign, a quick roll call down his list of understudies is worth noting, especially considering some other inter-positional developments that have peppered ongoing training camp and preseason festivities.

Washington Commanders have good options to fill in for Laremy Tunsil
Let’s start by taking a look at Tunsil’s advanced blocking metrics. This sets the baseline against which we can measure the various options which the Commanders might try as temporary replacements.
The following graph shows Tunsil’s pressure rate allowed in pass protection and run blocking grades throughout his 10 year NFL career. Pressure rate is the percentage of pressure opportunities on which he allowed a pressure (sack, QB hit or QB hurry). Pressure opportunities are pass blocking snaps, minus spikes and plays negated by penalties. Pressure rate is a well validated advanced stat, which is predictive of career outcomes at offensive tackle. Run blocking grades are PFF’s metric based on analyst ratings of a player’s contribution to play outcomes on every snap in a season. PFF grades are used here for want of any better-validated metric for run blocking.

National Military Monument Carries Personal Meaning for Commanders Safety Jeremy Reaves
Reaves comes from a military family; his father served in the U.S. Army and his mother in the U.S. Air Force. For Reaves, he wasn't sure what to expect: "At first, I didn’t know what to expect. Me knowing a lot about what was going on down in D.C. and how much history there is down there, I was kind of unsure of what I was going to be looking at," said Reaves. "Then, getting down there and getting to see it all—and how they’ve meshed it up and blended it so well with what is already down there and part of the historical side of the capital—it was really cool, man."

Commanders WR Terry McLaurin addresses potential Stefon Diggs competition
“Having a guy who’s like-minded like that, who’s played at the highest level, who’s been All Pro, Pro Bowl and played in the biggest situations, that helps me to measure myself up to where I am in my game,” McLaurin said. “I’m an elite player as well.”
