The Los Angeles Chargers entered this season with plenty of playmakers on the defensive side of the ball. Sometimes the most elite guys are the ones who do not get as much recognition, which could be the case for this player. One veteran has quietly continued to show why he could be a major part of what makes this defense so scary. His ability to make plays when the opportunity arises, could give the Chargers another sneaky weapon this season.

Donte Jackson isn't a new name in the NFL, but his first season with the Chargers in 2025 showed he still has what it takes to hang with the top playmakers in this league. He quickly became a reliable option at cornerback, as well as being a perfect mentor for Tarheeb Still and Cam Hart.

Finding the football is his speciality

Jackson was a legit ballhawk for the Chargers last year. He accumulated four interceptions, 12 passes defended, and 24 total tackles. These numbers are impressive on there own, but his coverage numbers are what made his season even more encouraging.

According to Pro Football Focus, Jackson only allowed 24 receptions among cornerbacks with at least 400 coverage snaps. Which is the second-fewest in that group, and those are top-tier numbers if you ask me. The defensive back has similar statistics as the one above in other categories as well. Highlighting how solid he was for the Chargers. The craziest thing is that Jackson only received one penalty the entire season, and that could be the most valuable part of his game.

Making his presence felt at camp

Going into his second year with the Chargers, Jackson looks to further his success. At training camp, he has been making his presence felt all over the practice field. From the very beginning of camp the defensive back has brought competitiveness and experience.

Training camp is more than contention for a roster spot, or a role in the defense for this veteran. It is a chance to show everyone what type of player he can be while playing with confidence and attacking the ball.

If He can carry this level of play throughout training camp, Jackson's name might be in the news a lot more moving forward.
