With the No. 21 Oregon Ducks shocking 39-31 loss on the road to the Oklahoma State Cowboys, Duck fans are searching for signs across coach Dan Lanning's tenure that can explain the teams' unraveling in Stillwater.

Recently, a retelling of the Ducks' 56-22 2026 Peach Bowl loss to the Indiana Hoosiers is going viral for pointing out the same factors the Cowboys used to secure their victory over the then No. 6 ranked team in the nation.

Former Indiana Hoosier Linebacker Details Oregon Ducks Flaw

Michael Niziolek, a writer for The Herald-Times and author of the upcoming book "Unthinkable to Unstoppable," which details the Indiana Hoosiers' rise to becoming the 2026 College Football National Champion, shared his interview with Houston Texans linebacker Aiden Fisher about how he and the Hoosiers exploited a flaw in Oregon's system.

"They gave away a lot," Fisher said in the shared book excerpt from Niziolek. "Some on run downs, but passing downs, especially. We knew a lot of the routes they were running, just off of who was lined up where, and where they were lined up on the field. There were just a lot of tells that we were able to pick up on."

According to Niziolek's writing, the Hoosiers' linebacker corps created worksheets with every previously ran Oregon formation printed on them. While preparing for the Peach Bowl, Fisher and his teammates highlighted the top three plays Oregon favored and what changed pre-snap and post-snap. As an example, Fisher shared with Niziolek that prior to the Peach Bowl match-up, the Ducks began running more 21 personnel packages.

"We were hitting on all of them," Fisher said. “We were like, 'Dude, we have these guys on everything they want to do.'

Oklahoma State Found The Same Weakness In Oregon Ducks

If Fisher's comments sound familiar, its because Oklahoma State senior linebacker Tate Romney said something very similar about Oregon's "tells" shortly after the Cowboys captured their historic win against the Ducks.

“We were noticing earlier in the week that their offensive line had tendencies that helped us key into run [or] pass and a couple areas we could take advantage of, and obviously our defensive line was keyed into that. That was one big thing that gave us a big advantage," Romney said.

There's a more-than-likely chance with these "tells" Fisher and Romney divulged, that Oklahoma State coach Eric Morris' emphasis for the defensive line to play "fast" was a strategy to not let the Oregon offense find their own tempo, not having enough time to realize that certain stances were indicating a pass play or a run play.

How Can These Giveaways For The Oregon Ducks Be Fixed?

For Oregon, going back over film and identifying those "tells" is paramount. Perhaps, bringing in an outside analyst or veteran set of coaching eyes to point out those pass play or rush play tells to the offensive staff is a way to get a clear perspective without going in circles internally.

With Fisher and Romney's eerily similar takes showing a pattern for the Ducks, its also a baseline for where work can begin to remedy the mistakes made in Stillwater on Saturday.
