Altman2 Entertainment, Vital Signs Entertainment and Galaxie Productions have released the trailer for “The Sixty-Year Mission: How Star Trek Changed Television and the World,” a new documentary about the history and cultural impact of the iconic sci-fi franchise.

The film’s official logline reads, “Drawing on exclusive interviews, never-before-seen archival material and first-hand accounts from the people who built the franchise as well as celebrity superfans, ‘The Sixty-Year Mission’ traces ‘Star Trek’ from its turbulent beginnings in the 1960s through its transformation into one of the most enduring and influential properties in entertainment history.”

The documentary features interviews with “Star Trek” legends like William Shatner, Walter Koenig and George Takei, as well as Rod Roddenberry, Simon Pegg, Jonathan Frakes, Brent Spiner, Gates McFadden, Ethan Peck, Christina Chong, Robert Picardo, Denise Crosby, Nana Visitor, Terry Farrell, Armin Shimerman and Rainn Wilson.

“’Star Trek’ has been celebrated countless times, but we wanted to make the film that goes beyond the mythology and asks why this unlikely television series survived, evolved, thrived and ultimately became an icon of popular culture,” said Mark A. Altman, writer and director of “The Sixty-Year Mission.” “The real story is full of extraordinary creative risks, battles, failures and breakthroughs. What emerged from all of that was something far bigger than a franchise. It became a cultural institution that has inspired millions of fans and defined a hopeful vision of the future for generations.”

Shatner serves as executive producer of “The Sixty-Year Mission,” alongside Altman, Michael S. Broder, Daren Dochterman, Ashley E. Miller, Alan Pao and Thomas P. Vitale. Altman2 Entertainment, Vital Signs Entertainment, Aaron Rattner and Galaxie Productions serve as producers.
