If Aaron Glenn and the Jets truly want to convince everyone that this season will not be the “same old, same old” out of Florham Park following a gutty win Sunday over the Browns, they have one immediate directive to make that so: Go up to Foxborough this week and take down the Patriots.

A second straight win and getting to .500 with a signature win over their longtime tormentors in the AFC East would set them up nicely to be 4-3 through the end of October with a game to follow next week at home against the winless Dolphins.

Earning those two wins would put the Jets at 2-0 in the division, even if they still are not in the class of Josh Allen and the East-leading Bills, whom they will face twice over their final eight games.

It hasn’t happened often in recent Jets history, but the narrative of an NFL season can flip dramatically with one statement win. Just look at the Giants suddenly leading the NFC East by 1 ½ games despite season-ending injuries to quarterback Jaxson Dart and sack machine Brian Burns, with their divisional rivals also struggling with injuries and/or ineffective play or clock management.
