Nikki Haley Donors Switch to Joe Biden Over Donald Trump

Donors who supported Nikki Haley in her Republican primary campaign are set to switch their allegiance to Joe Biden, as he prepares to face Donald Trump in the presidential election later this year.

Trump was confirmed as the GOP nominee for November's presidential election last week after securing enough delegates across multiple primaries. He looks set to face-off against incumbent Biden in a rematch of the 2020 election.

Haley, the former South Carolina governor, dropped out of the primary race earlier this month in the wake of Super Tuesday. Media mogul Jeffrey Katzenberg called Harry Sloan, who had previously helped bring in at least $550,000 for Haley through fundraising receptions, and asked him to donate to Biden instead. He has also donated to Democrats in the past and gave $100,000 to a pro-Biden political action committee, Future Forward, last year.

Speaking to CNBC, Sloan said he agreed to help raise money for Biden

"People I know who are generally business Republicans, they're going to hear from me" about helping Biden, Sloan said.

Biden's campaign finance chair, Rufus Gifford, also told the outlet that he is in a WhatsApp group called "Haley Supporters for Biden" that is seeking to recruit more Haley donors to the cause.

Politico and NBC News have also reported that Biden's campaign finance team has reached out to Haley donors since she suspended her presidential campaign. Newsweek could not independently verify this information and contacted Biden's campaign by email to comment on this story.

Despite enjoying widespread support from members of his party, a significant number of moderates in the GOP have said they would never vote for the former president and the party has seen infighting in Congress and in its governing body, the Republican National Committee in recent weeks.

Meanwhile, Trump has indicated that he does not want support from those who used to back the former South Carolina Governor.

"Anybody that makes a 'Contribution' to [Haley] from this moment forth, will be permanently barred from the MAGA camp. We don't want them, and will not accept them," he wrote on Truth Social on January 24.

Conversely, Biden appeared to welcome Haley supporters in a statement he issued when she dropped out of the race.

"Donald Trump made it clear he doesn't want Nikki Haley's supporters. I want to be clear: There is a place for them in my campaign," Biden said.
