The Tennessee Titans hosted the Seattle Seahawks for a preseason game on Sunday at Nissan Stadium, and the first two drives couldn't have gone worse for Robert Saleh's defense.

Seattle mostly played their backups against Tennessee's starting defense, but that didn't stop the Seahawks from carving up the Titans. On the opening drive, Seattle moved the ball effortlessly and notched the first score of the game on a Drew Lock touchdown pass to Elijah Arroyo from 36 yards out. On the touchdown, Titans safety Kevin Winston Jr. looked lost and didn't fulfill his assignment on the play and allowed Arroyo to break free for the score.

On the ensuing series, Tennessee's defense was even worse, as it surrendered an explosive 69-yard touchdown run to Seahawks running back Jacardia Wright. After that, Saleh pulled most of the starters to get a look at depth players.

The Titans' No. 1 defense was incredibly uninspiring Sunday night, and it may be time to hit the panic button on the unit.

Though it's just the preseason, the Titans' first-team defense has struggled in both preseason contests. Given the resources general manager Mike Borgonzi invested in the group, including signing cornerbacks Alontae Taylor and Cor'Dale Flott, and defensive tackle John Franklin-Myers, it's deflating to see them post awful performances against backups.

If the Titans want to make any kind of noise in the AFC this season, the defense must be one of the top groups in the league. They've looked the exact opposite through two preseason contests, and they haven't provided much optimism that improvement is on the way.

We'll see whether Saleh and defensive coordinator Gus Bradley's group can respond to the adversity in the final week of training camp. But there's no denying that these ugly showings in the preseason should be worrying.

The Titans will finish the preseason at home against the Chicago Bears, and will also stay in Nashville for Week 1 versus the New York Jets. The defense needs to step it up from here on out because the regular season is rapidly approaching.
