Trump is going to get trounced in the midterms and he knows it

U.S. President Donald Trump will get "trounced" in Tuesday's midterm elections, former White House communications director and SkyBridge Capital founder Anthony Scaramucci told CNBC.

Speaking to CNBC's "Squawk Box Europe" on Tuesday, Scaramucci said America is in the throes of a cultural and economic struggle, with the two main parties fighting to deliver "two different visions of where the country should go."

"I think the president's going to get trounced, by the way, and I think he knows he's going to get trounced," he said.

Trump's economic approval rating hit an all-time low last month, according to CNBC's All-America Economic Survey, with 65% of respondents disapproving of the president's handling of the economy, while 80% rated the economy as fair or poor.

"You have one vote. You have one customer relations survey that you can do on the American president — that's at the midterms, and people are not happy," Scaramucci added.

"He promised affordability, he promised no more forever wars, he promised transparency on the Epstein files," Scaramucci said on Tuesday. "He didn't deliver on any of that stuff, and so there's a lot of people inside MAGA that are now also breaking from him."

The White House did not immediately respond to a CNBC request to comment. The White House previously told CNBC that Scaramucci's "relevance ended almost a decade ago." Scaramucci was White House communications director for 10 days in 2017, during Trump's first term.

Prediction markets are now pricing in around a three-in-four chance of the Democrats winning control of the Senate in Tuesday's election. Odds and gambling platforms do not use methodologies used by traditional political polling, and therefore are not substitutes for political polls.

Scaramucci 'bearish' on Iran breakthrough

On the Iran war, Scaramucci said he was "bearish" on a potential diplomatic breakthrough after the ballot.

"I don't see any alignment between the Iranians, the Israelis, and the Americans for a potential negotiated solution right now," he said. "If the Americans are going to ramp up the military strikes alongside of the Israelis ... I don't really understand how that's going to necessarily help the region either."

The U.S. launched "defensive" strikes on Iran's Qeshm Island overnight, a U.S. official told MS Now. Trump previously said American forces would not attack Iran before the midterms.

"Wars are very bad for business," Scaramucci told CNBC Tuesday. "They're not great for the stock market. So I would like to have a negotiated settlement, but there's nothing on the matrix where you see the concentric circles lining up, where these three groups would say, 'okay, that's a deal that all three of us are willing to accept.'"

Republican 'civil war'

Scaramucci also said "disarray" within the Democratic Party had been "the best thing that has happened for Donald Trump."

"And so, if he gets trounced here, there will be bicameral investigations that will be the main show because there's a lot of things that's going on in the administration that the Democrats are going to want to uncover," he said.

"The Republicans, in my mind, I think there'll be a great intellectual civil war. The Republicans are going to have to reconcile where do they want to go. It's no longer the party of Ronald Reagan, certainly not the party of George W. Bush, but is it the party of Donald Trump after he leaves the stage?"

Scaramucci added that it was "going to take a long while to get away from" the so-called MAGA movement.

"There'll be DNA elements of MAGA in the next presidential candidate for sure, because looming large over that presidential candidate will be Donald Trump and several hundred million dollars of his PAC money, and so they're not going to want to get too far away from him in 2028. So there will be elements of MAGA, but I also think there'll be a civil war in that party," he said.
