Trump's Immunity Argument Shot Down by Judge Merchan: 'Inadequate'

1 week ago 26

New York Judge Juan Merchan on Wednesday denied Donald Trump's request to delay his hush-money criminal case until the U.S. Supreme Court rules on if the former president is immune from facing charges for actions he committed while in office.

In his order, Merchan wrote that Trump's arguments to have his trial delayed were "inadequate and not convincing." Trump's defense team had asked the state judge to adjourn the hush money trail, which is scheduled for April 15, until the High Court settles if the former president is clear from charges in his federal election interference case under claims of presidential immunity.

Merchan's order characterized Trump's request as "untimely," writing that defense lawyers had several opportunities to ask for a delay prior to making their request on March 7.

This is a developing story and will be updated when more information becomes available.
