Guess who piped up to slam a sweeping law enforcement operation to cut illegal drug traffic in Skid Row?
Ysabel Jurado, the far-left LA councilwoman in whose district the 50 square blocks of homeless tent squalor sit.
As the California Post reported, Jurado all but condemned a joint federal-local law enforcement operation that arrested 28 alleged drug dealers plying Skid Row’s homeless with meth, PCP, fentanyl and more.

“Law enforcement has described the operation in Skid Row as targeting drug trafficking,” the councilwoman wrote Friday on social media. “But that doesn’t remove the responsibility to protect residents’ rights and well-being.”
She went on to lament that “Residents have reported being kept from returning to their tents, obtaining their belongings, accessing essential medication and reaching the services they depend on every day to survive.”
As if law enforcement — and not the gang- and drug-fueled violence and squalor that consume Skid Row — were the problem.
Jurado’s hot take drew backlash, and yesterday, she fired back on social media: “Apparently, asking whether people can get to their medication is now controversial. That’s quite a reading of my statement.”
Council member Ysabel Jurado all but condemned a joint federal-local law enforcement operation that arrested 28 alleged drug dealers in Skid Row. David Buchan for CA PostThe councilwoman did concede — if belatedly and under fire — that drug thugs who prey on the Skid Row homeless “should be held accountable through due process.”
That, at least, is a small step toward sanity.
Fact is, Jurado should be embarrassed that this enormous cesspool of crime and human misery festers under her purview.
She should be pressing for sane, common-sense policies that would clean up the debacle — and actually move thousands of human beings out of deplorable conditions and into rehab, treatment and productive lives.
Instead, she defends the filthy Skid Row, which comprises 6,000 homeless people, as just another ’hood in LA — and on Friday called it “a neighborhood of friends and families like any other.”
Seriously?
The councilwoman did concede — if belatedly and under fire — that drug thugs who prey on the Skid Row homeless “should be held accountable through due process.” Carlin Stiehl for CA PostWorse, Jurado suggests the drug-den denizens would be just fine … if only federal anti-drug agents would leave them alone — or at least let them access their junk piles.
Details on the alleged obstruction — how, exactly, the squalid tents were blocked; how many might have been inaccessible and for how long; and how life-sustaining “services” were impeded — were not provided.
One would think a council member would applaud the arrest and potential incarceration of tens of criminals who feed the addled, vulnerable homeless an endless supply of deadly illegal drugs.
And one would think a council member elected to serve a district with nearly half a square mile of filth, crime and human indignity would want to clean up the mess, rather than defend it as a hub of “friends and families.”
Indeed, “no on squalor and yes on law enforcement” would be a reasonable person’s take on Skid Row facts on the ground.
Instead, Ysabel Jurado speaks up to defend and normalize the squalor, while denigrating law enforcement.
Jurado shows no awareness of her own role in abiding and perpetuating large-scale human suffering.
She directs her words of criticism at those making improvements.
With “leadership” like this, it’s no wonder Los Angeles is such a mess.
