A bartender has been filmed shaving a woman’s head after she allegedly tried to drink-and-dash in Thailand.

According to Viral Press, the woman was well-known for skipping her bills at clubs and restaurants in the Pinklao area of Bangkok, Thailand.

She reportedly used a fake ID to enter a popular bar on August 25 before running up a 60,000 baht tab (around $1812.25 USD) and then allegedly tried to slip out of the venue without paying.

However, the woman was quickly caught and handed over to the staff, who demanded that she settle the bill.

Unable to pay, the woman reportedly agreed to have her head shaved instead of being handed over to police.

Footage shows the girl, donned in a strapless white dress, appearing to consent to a “hair purchase contract”.

A man behind the camera can be heard saying: “I am not taking advantage of you. This is the market rate. I will attach this for you. I am adding extra for this as well. Okay?”

Video shows the bartender using an electric razor to shave off her thick, shoulder-length locks, which will allegedly be donated.

The humiliating punishment has sparked divided opinions.

Chalida ‘Ton Or’ Phalamat, founder of Thailand’s non-government Be One Foundation that deals with child abuse, believes the bar went “too far”.

“They contacted me to apologise and admitted that the manager had acted out of anger and impulsiveness,” she said. “They also said they would contact the victim’s family to discuss compensation.

“I sympathise with them and understand that they need to make a profit, but the way they handled this was clearly unlawful. A hair purchase contract made under duress is void, and shaving someone’s head against their will can amount to assault, coercion and unlawful detention.”

Thailand’s Ministry of Social Development and Human Security has been asked to investigate the incident, Chalida said as she urged businesses not to resort to “mob rule over the law”.

On May 10, a gay man, Abdulloh, also known as Madam Loh, was also forced to shave his head in Bangkok after comments mocking Islamic verses sparked outrage among Muslims.

A crowd confronted him before Police Colonel Jetsada Yangnok mediated the nearly three-hour standoff.

Abdulloh apologised and was escorted to Wang Thonglang Police Station for his safety.
