A wrong-way driver slammed head-on into another car on the Northern State Parkway on Long Island early Sunday morning, killing one person and leaving another with serious injuries.

The deadly collision, which shut down the westbound roadway for hours in the midst of Labor Day holiday weekend traffic, started when a 2007 Ford Escape barreled into a 2023 Ford Maverick — whose driver was pronounced dead at the scene, New York State Police said.

The operator of the Ford Escape, however, survived the crash and was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

No charges had been filed against the driver by Sunday afternoon.

Neither person’s identity was revealed by police.

Photos from the scene showed a destroyed white Ford Maverick pickup truck spun around and facing the wrong way on the parkway while a gray Ford Escape was also left battered with serious damage.

Crews cleared debris from the roadway once both vehicles were towed, and the westbound lanes reopened around 10:15 a.m.
