With Sunday Night's Main Event right around the corner, what happened following tonight's episode of Raw as WWE SmackDown was taped at Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada on Monday evening?

This week's episode of WWE Raw featured both Rey Fenix and Penta making it to the finals of the tournament to determine the number one contender for Roman Reigns' World Heavyweight Championship. In the main event of the evening, Royce Keys returned alongside NXT's OTM to take out The Usos, LA Knight, and Solo Sikoa.

Here are some highlights that took place during this evening's SmackDown tapings from Ottawa.

Kevin Owens and CM Punk are far from finished

Tonight's WWE SmackDown taping kicked off with a promo from Kevin Owens, who was interrupted by his opponent last week, WWE Champion CM Punk. They were also interrupted by Gunther and Finn Balor, which led to a number-one contender's match being set for the main event.

Unfortunately, both Raw and SmackDown's main events this week ended in a no contest when Sami Zayn interfered to ruin the match, leaving CM Punk with no number one contender for the WWE Championship.

WWE SmackDown spoilers for August 28

• Kevin Owens started the show with a promo. He was interrupted by CM Punk. They were then interrupted by Gunther. And they were then interrupted by Finn Balor. A triple threat match between Kevin Owens, Gunther, and Finn Balor was made for the main event to determine a new number one contender for the WWE Championship.

• The Irresistible Forces (Nia Jax and Lash Legend) defeated Chelsea Green and Tiffany Stratton. They did a spot where medics tried to pull Green from the match, but she came back to keep Stratton from being alone.

• Danhausen has a meeting backstage with General Manager Nick Aldis, but it was interrupted by Gunther

• Jacy Jayne defeated Paige to retain the Women's United States Championship. Nikki Bella returned and attacked Paige

• Giulia jumps Blake Monroe backstage during her interview to get revenge from last week

• Kevin Owens vs. Gunther vs. Finn Balor ended in a no contest when Sami Zayn interfered. CM Punk attempted to get involved, but Zayn laid out everyone with the WWE Championship to end the show.
