The San Francisco 49ers finally signed some pass-rush help, but it’s not the player fans have been clamoring for.

Though Joey Bosa, brother of 49ers star edge-rusher Nick Bosa, is still a free agent, it seems unlikely he’ll join his younger brother in the Bay Area. Some reports have indicated Joey could retire, and Nick even recently hinted it doesn’t seem like Joey will play in 2026.

However, the 49ers did address their pass-rush on Wednesday, signing a player who’s quite familiar with defensive coordinator Raheem Morris.

“Source: Veteran edge rusher Ogbo Okoronkwo is signing with the 49ers today,” ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported. “Reunites with DC Raheem Morris from their time together with Rams.”

The 31-year-old Okoronkwo spent the first three seasons of his career with the division rival Los Angeles Rams. His last year he played under Morris, who was L.A.’s defensive coordinator.

He also had a one-year stint with the Houston Texans and played two seasons with the Cleveland Browns before joining the Philadelphia Eagles in 2025. He missed most of that season after suffering a biceps tear.

In 80 games, Okoronkwo has totaled 143 pressures, 102 hurries, 22 QB hits, 17 sacks, 132 tackles, our forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery, according to Pro Football Focus.

In San Francisco, Okoronkwo will join a 49ers defensive line that doesn’t pose much of a threat outside of Bosa and 2025 first-round pick Mykel Williams, both of which are coming off serious season-ending injuries last year.

San Francisco does have free-agent addition Cameron Sample, 2023 second-round pick Keion White, and 2026 third-round rookie Romello Height, though he’s had a few injury scares, leaving practice one day with cramps and recently suffering an elbow bruise.
