The Los Angeles Angels have added to their pitching depth.

The Angels announced on Friday that they have claimed pitcher Ryan Watson off of waivers from the Boston Red Sox. The Angels also shared that Jorge Soler has cleared release waivers and is now officially a free agent.

The Angels claiming Watson off waivers comes just a few days after the Red Sox designated Watson for assignment. Now, the 6-foot-5 righty will be looking to make an impact with the Angels after getting this new opportunity.

Watson appeared in his first 35 career major league games this season with the Red Sox, where he posted a 1-0 record, one save, a 4.53 ERA, and 43 strikeouts in 55.2 innings pitched. Overall, he has shown some promise at times during his rookie season, and it will be interesting to see if he can end it on a high note with the Angels from here.

There is ultimately no harm in the Angels claiming a rookie pitcher like Watson off waivers. They are currently at the bottom of the MLB standings, so they are in a position to take a chance on young pitchers with good upside like Watson. If he ends up hitting a new level with the Angels, it could end up being a very solid move for the Halos.
