Wisconsin hasn't been able to lay legitimate claim to the title of "Running Back University" in some time.

The last truly great tailback the Badgers deployed — Braelon Allen — has been in the NFL for two seasons at this point.

Allen carried on the tradition of electrifying running backs from the Dairy State that ran all over Camp Randall and the Big Ten, a long line of ball-carriers that also includes Melvin Gordon and John Clay.

The Badgers have largely relied on transfer portal halfbacks under head coach Luke Fickell, but their next great in-state running back may be on his way.

Four-star tailback and Wisconsin commit Kingston Allen got off to quite the start in his senior season Friday against Neenah. The tailback piled up 39 carries for a whopping 464 yards and seven touchdowns as Notre Dame won a thrilling Week 1 showdown.

With that stat-line, Allen obviously looked unstoppable. He shed arm tackle after arm tackle and displayed great vision. He runs with a nice combination of power and elusiveness in a way that's almost reminiscent of the other aforementioned Wisconsin tailback with the same name.

The blue-chip ball-carrier broke touchdown runs of 59, 68, and 90 yards, among others, on many of which he simply took a direct snap and sliced through the Neenah defense for the score.

If this opening game was any indication, Allen is in for quite the senior season. It's rather shocking that the back still has just five offers, including just two FBS offers (Wisconsin and Northwestern). He appears to be on a different level this season, and more Power Four interest should begin rolling in shortly.

Given the lack of other big-time schools involved with Allen's recruitment and the fact that he was always considered a Wisconsin lean, securing the tailback's commitment didn't feel like an enormous, absolutely crucial recruiting win at the time. But Allen is quietly a big-time player in this class for the Badgers.

247Sports has him as Wisconsin's second-highest ranked player they've signed in 2027 at No. 150 nationally and the No. 7 running back in the country. On3/Rivals is less high on him, slotting him in at No. 267 in the country and the No. 20 tailback.

It'll be fun to track Allen's senior season this fall. Badgers fans appear to be in for a treat watching him dash through hapless high schoolers all year.
