The main event already happened earlier this week when A.J. Brown battled his former teammates in the two joint practices between the Patriots and Eagles.

But there will still be plenty to see in Saturday’s preseason game at Foxborough. Many backups on the Patriots and Eagles are fighting for roster spots as the Aug. 30 cutdown day approaches.

Here’s what to watch for Saturday:

Will Makai Lemon play?

The Eagles’ 2026 first-round pick managed to return to practice this week, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll make his preseason debut Saturday.

Philadelphia might opt to play it safe with Lemon, who has missed most of training camp due to a hamstring injury.

Lemon would have the bulk of the spotlight if he plays against the Patriots. But if he doesn’t, the Eagles’ second pick from the 2026 draft class will be one to follow.

Tight end Eli Stowers has had a rocky training camp, so he may do better in preseason action as a focal point of the offense.

Finding a spot for Caleb Lomu

The Patriots spent a first-round pick on Lomu in April, but that investment doesn’t mean he’ll start right away.

Lomu has gotten some reps with the first-team offense at right tackle, and the team has played him at times at guard. Additionally, Lomu has had mixed camp performances, along with growing pains in the joint practices.

Lomu could gain more trust from coach Mike Vrabel with a strong performance against the Eagles.

Patriots’ kicker issues

New England might have some concerns about kicker Andy Borregales after he missed three of his five field-goal attempts last week against the Colts, including a potential 49-yard game-winner.

However, that wasn’t enough for the Patriots to add kicking competition. It also helped that Borregales had a strong week of practice.
