Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson shared an update on his team's new safety, Coby Bryant, who sustained an injury during the team's training camp.
"Two things that popped up since last time I was up here. Obviously, Coby went down with the injury. We're still in an information collection phase on that in terms of the timeline and extent of it. We should have more information here within the next few days," Johnson said at his media session Wednesday.
Later in the press conference, a reporter followed up by asking if previous reports about the Bryant's injury return timeline being eight to 10 weeks were "not confirmed yet."
"I don't know where you guys got that," Johnson said, adding, "Hasn't been said here, so. I'll let you guys know whenever we know for sure what it looks like for him."

Initially, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported (via sources) on Monday that the timeline for Bryant's recovery from a "hyperextended knee, bone bruise and small fracture" would be eight to 10 weeks, but Johnson gave a much different perspective on the matter. Whether that means it's more or less serious remains to be seen.
After playing his first four NFL seasons with the Seattle Seahawks and winning a Super Bowl, Bryant is entering his first season as a member of the Bears' defense. He's achieved 227 total tackles, two sacks, seven forced fumbles, and a defensive interception in his NFL career thus far.
The Bears are hoping he can help address their needs on defense. Although it was considered a major weakness last season, they had several standout players, including Kevin Byard III, who led the NFL in interceptions. Byard exited as a free agent this offseason, joining the New England Patriots on a one-year $9 million contract.
Those initial speculative injury timeline reports indicated that Bryant wouldn't be playing in at least a few of the Bears' regular-season games next month. A 10-week timeline keeps him out into October, while anything more could be detrimental for this team's defense, which many believe is still an issue despite their significant weapons on offense.
