Marvin Harrison Jr. entered the league in 2024 as a generational talent, expected to be the Arizona Cardinals' future WR1. But last season, that role looks more like it belongs to Michael Wilson, a former third-round pick.

The 6-foot-2 receiver out of Stanford was Arizona's No. 94 overall selection in 2023. A year later, the Cardinals used the No. 4 overall pick on Harrison. Yet in 2025, it was Wilson — not Harrison — who was the more consistent, productive weapon on a weekly basis, nearly doubling Harrison's output across the board.

While Harrison went through a sophomore slump, finishing with 608 receiving yards and four touchdowns on 41 catches out of 73 targets, Wilson set career highs with 78 receptions on 126 targets for 1,006 yards and seven touchdowns. Harrison did miss five games, but Wilson's importance to the offense was undeniable regardless.

And yet, despite entering the final year of his rookie deal, Wilson still doesn't have an extension in place.

Asked about the situation Monday, Cardinals general manager Monti Ossenfort offered a less-than-definitive answer. "He's a guy that we want around here a long time," Ossenfort said. "There's no question about it. So, I mean, expect, that's a tough word. I mean, I think our interest is in keeping him here and Michael's been a good player for us. He's going to continue to be a good player for us. So, I know coach [Mike] LaFleur feels the same way and we want Michael here for a long time."

Wilson has built real chemistry with Jacoby Brissett and, at times, has looked like a legitimate No. 1 receiver in his own right. The Cardinals, though, already committed big money to tight end Trey McBride with a four-year, $76 million extension last offseason, and they'll eventually need to pay Harrison as well — or risk losing him. If Wilson hits the open market instead, it's safe to assume plenty of contenders would be lining up.

Talks between Wilson and the Cardinals are reportedly ongoing, and a deal could still get done. But calling "expect" a "tough word" isn't exactly a ringing endorsement that a long-term agreement is close.
