The Los Angeles Dodgers are bringing back one of their former players.

According to the New York Post's Jon Heyman, the Dodgers have acquired catcher Ben Rortvedt from the New York Mets in exchange for pitcher Chayce McDermott.

Rortvedt has not played at the major league level yet this season. In 48 games this campaign with Triple-A Syracuse before this trade, he recorded six home runs, 26 RBI, and a .234 batting average. Now, after being traded to the Dodgers, he will be looking to make the jump back to the majors.

Rortvedt was acquired by the Dodgers last season from the Tampa Bay Rays. In 18 regular-season games with the Dodgers last year, he recorded one home run, four RBI, and a .224 batting average. He also made an impact for the Dodgers in the playoffs, as he had a .429 batting average in four postseason games.

With this move, the Dodgers have now added to their catching depth by bringing in a familiar face. In 227 career MLB games over four seasons split between the Minnesota Twins, New York Yankees, Tampa Bay Rays, and Dodgers, Rortvedt has recorded nine home runs, 52 RBI, and a .190 batting average.

McDermott, on the other hand, was recently designated for assignment by the Dodgers. In two appearances for the Dodgers this season before this trade, he allowed two earned runs in 2.1 innings pitched. The 6-foot-3 lefty will now be looking to make an impact with the Mets after this deal.
