WASHINGTON — Tech billionaire Elon Musk has spent $276 million on behalf of Republicans ahead of the 2026 midterm elections, making him the largest donor this cycle, The Post has learned.

The eye-popping, nine-figure sum has been distributed to GOP candidates in tough House and Senate races, though the lion’s share of $158 million went to the Senate Leadership Fund, a super PAC shelling out to defend Republicans’ majority in the upper chamber, per a spokesman for Musk’s PAC.

Another $76 million went to get-out-the-vote efforts in seven Senate battleground states and almost three dozen House races, according to The New York Times, which first reported on the political contributions from Musk’s America PAC.

The PAC has also contributed $20 million to the Congressional Leadership Fund, a super PAC that backs House Republicans’ majority; $10 million to Lone Star Liberty PAC, which is spending on behalf of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s run for US Senate; $10 million to the Republican Governors Association and $2 million to the Republican Attorneys General Association.

“If Democrats take control of Washington and win key gubernatorial and attorney general races this November, then America risks becoming a socialist, woke and borderless country,” said America PAC spokesman Andrew Romeo in a statement.

“These robust investments have allowed the G.O.P. apparatus to get its message out so Republicans can have a fighting chance to defy history,” Romeo added.

It’s quite the turnaround for Musk, who famously had a falling out with President Trump last year and announced he was leaving the Republican Party to form his own America Party.

But as he’s patched things up with the president since leaving the Department of Government Efficiency, his billions have started following again to GOP causes.

With the $366 million in total Musk has donated so far to 2026 federal campaigns, the tech titan has given more this cycle than he did during Trump’s 2024 re-election campaign.

Liberal billionaire George Soros and his son Alex Soros, by contrast, have contributed just over $100 million for Democratic campaigns in the midterms.

The contributions could be the only thing standing between Democrats and a majority in both chambers of Congress this November — but the donations cut against comments Musk made last year about taking a step back from political activism.

“In terms of political spending, I’m going to do a lot less in the future,” the SpaceX and Tesla CEO told the Qatar Economic Forum in May 2025.

Asked why the about-face on becoming a GOP megadonor, the world’s richest man added: “I think I’ve done enough.”

The comments precipitated a falling out between himself and President Trump, in part due to a disagreement over Republicans’ massive tax-and-spending package that year.

The rift has since been papered over, and Trump even awarded Musk a National Medal of Science earlier this month.
