Following Tony Romo’s arrest for suspicion of operating a vehicle under the influence (OWI), it appears CBS is using the incident to force the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback out the door permanently.

Houston Texans legend J.J. Watt was tabbed as Romo’s interim replacement on CBS’ top broadcast crew, but the network could be eyeing a bigger fish to replace Romo long-term.

According to Puck’s John Ourand, Watt is being considered to replace Romo, but so is former Pro Bowl tight end Greg Olsen, who currently works as the color commentator on Fox’s No. 2 broadcast crew alongside Joe Davis.

“Watt is one name, and the other is Greg Olsen, a broadcasting superstar who has many fans out there who love him on the air,” Ourand wrote. “You'll recall Olsen was demoted when Tom Brady took over Fox's No. 1 job.”

Olsen was previously the top analyst for Fox alongside Kevin Burkhardt before the network signed legendary QB Tom Brady to a 10-year, $375 million contract, effectively handing Olsen a demotion.

Reports indicate that Olsen was making roughly $10 million per year in the top spot at Fox but was bumped down to $3 million per year after Brady was brought in. If CBS wants to lure Olsen away from Fox, it’ll likely have to pay him closer to what he was making four years ago.

It’s been reported that CBS harbored some resentment toward Romo stemming from their last contract negotiation that resulted in his $18 million-per-year salary that made him one of the highest-paid broadcasters in the industry.

CBS owes $72 million over the next four years, which it could potentially get out of if he’s let go with cause.
