While giving an update on Jack Campbell on Monday, Lions’ Dan Campbell gave insight to the linebacker’s family.
“I got to go see him last night, it was good, it was positive,” the coach told reporters during a press conference. “Got to see his parents, talk to his wife and everybody’s in good spirits. It’s about the recovery and it’s a small setback.
“That’s the family, they’re very positive. So that’s good in that regard.”
It was a reminder to fans about Campbell’s home life after he suffered a horrifying injury on Sunday just months after his first child was born.
Campbell, 26, and his wife Megan welcomed their first child, son Cooper James Campbell on July 3.
“The beginning of our favorite chapter yet! We love you so much buddy 💌” she wrote in an Instagram post.
Their son has made appearances at Ford Field and at a Lions women workout class with Megan in October.
The couple met as undergraduates at the University of Iowa, where Campbell played football and Megan played for the women’s basketball team before transferring to Duke University.
Campbell proposed in 2023 and the two were married in June 29, 2024 in Okoboji, Iowa. They went on to honeymoon in Santorini, Greece.
“The best day of our lives surrounded by our family and friends. This day was filled with so much laughter and love. Our hearts are filled with gratitude! Here’s to a lifetime with my best friend!!!!” Megan wrote in an Instagram post.
There are reports that Campbell’s wife joined him in the ambulance as he was driven to a local Detroit hospital following the scary hit.
During the fourth quarter of the Lions’ 19-15 win over the then-undefeated Vikings, Campbell attempted to tackle Minnesota tight end TJ Hockenson when his neck and back seemed to crunch.
He laid motionless on the field and seemed to lose feeling in his extremities. He was eventually stretched off the field and put into an ambulance.
On Monday, the team announced that “preliminary indications are positive” but refrained from revealing any more information out of respect for Campbell and his family.
The Lions added he remains at the hospital to rest and recover.
Campbell is currently in his fourth NFL season after he was taken with the No. 18 overall pick in the 2023 draft to Detroit.
A year ago, he earned his first All-Pro selection after tallying five sacks and 176 tackles across 17 starts.
The Lions (5-2) face the Dolphins (1-6) in Week 9.
