During practice on Tuesday, Aug. 4, Tennessee Titans star defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons was ejected after throwing a punch early on at third year offensive tackle J.C. Latham, following a "scuffle" with starting center Austin Schlottmann.

Instead of having the three-time All-Pro go back to the locker room and do nothing for the remainder of the allotted practice time, head coach Robert Saleh instead had him complete drills on the side field with the strength and conditioning coach, per Adam Schefter.

"Our policy is if you throw a punch you're ejected in the game, same thing with practice," Saleh said. "If you throw a punch, you're out of practice. But rather than going to the locker room, he went to the other field. He still got his work in. So the projected reps and the work that he would have gotten, he got in off to the side."

Simmons also had a brief minor "tussle" during padded practice on Monday.

One of the reasons that Tennessee Titans defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons fell to the 19th pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, where he was gleefully snatched up by former GM Jon Robinson, was due to an off-the-field incident in high school where he was found guilty of simple assault and disturbing the peace.

Even though Simmons was an excellent student at Mississippi State following said incident, and has been otherwise a rip-roaring success in the NFL over the past seven seasons, incidents like these perhaps shed some glimpse of light onto why 11 teams had the 29 year old fully off their draft boards.

But as it stands with his time in the league, moments like these are the rare exceptions, rather than the rule.
