Kevin Durant made a definitive statement on how he views the Philadelphia 76ers now that they've added LeBron James to the starting lineup.

The 76ers won the King James sweepstakes last month, beating out other suitors, including the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, Golden State Warriors, and Minnesota Timberwolves.

And by doing so, they created what might be one of the most overpowered starting lineups in NBA history. Durant spoke about it when asked if he felt the 76ers are "contenders."

"For sure. You don't think so?" Durant replied in a Deadspin clip. "Last time they put three 20-point scorers on a team, they said it was unfair, which was the [Warriors] team I was on. They got four 25-point scorers on this team. So, hell yeah, I think they're gonna be a contender. They'll be a great team to watch."

Durant previously joined Golden State, aligning himself with All-Stars Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green. During KD's time there, he captured two championships with the team, adding to his Hall of Fame legacy.

In 2017, he and Curry both averaged slightly over 25 points a game, with Thompson averaging 22.3 points per game. In 2018, Curry and KD averaged 26.4 points per game, with Klay averaging 20. Those back-to-back seasons resulted in back-to-back championships for the Warriors, which has some believing this 76ers team can do similar with James.

Guard Tyrese Maxey led the 76ers last season with 28.3 points per game, followed by big man Joel Embiid's 26.9 per game. They've also added Jaylen Brown to the starting lineup, who was averaging 28.7 per game with the Boston Celtics.

James averaged 20.9 during his final season with the Lakers, and then you have a fifth player in VJ Edgecombe, who is capable of going off for 20-plus, as he's just entering his second season in Philly. That's a scary lineup on paper, but will everyone be able to co-exist and put egos aside in the interest of winning?

It's no surprise that other players around the league see this 76ers team as a legitimate threat, including Durant. He only has the potential to face their lineup twice, based on previous schedules where Western and Eastern Conference teams have one home and one away matchup. However, he also knows how dangerous they are.

Meanwhile, oddsmakers seem to be waiting to see how Philly's new squad performs in games. At +350, they're trailing the New York Knicks (+330) to win the East. They're also at +900 to win the NBA championship behind the heavily favored San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder.
