The Baltimore Orioles attempted to get their minds off the trade deadline by seeing “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” on Monday.

It's safe to say that wasn't a great idea...

Gunnar Henderson, Colton Cowser, Ryan Mountcastle, and Adley Rutschman were about to step into the theater when the catcher received the call that he had been traded, as shared by The Baltimore Sun's Jacob Calvin Meyer. The O's decided against seeing the film that ended up finishing with the highest-grossing domestic opening weekend in history, instead giving their now-former teammate a hug and sending him on his way.

“It was pretty emotional,” Cowser said, according to Calvin Meyer. “All I could do was give him a hug and tell him that I'm here for him and I love him.”

Rutschman was viewed as one of the most likely trade candidates in all of baseball prior to the 6 p.m. ET trade deadline on Monday, so it's certainly fair to question why the group thought it would be a good idea to go see the movie -- though off days are hard to come by.

“I’m not going to be able to talk about it today," Henderson said when asked about the trade on Tuesday.

It's certainly an emotional thing for the face of the franchise to be shipped off, but those impacted can take solace in the fact that they still get to see the new Spider-Man.
