Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton remains hospitalized in Florida after an apparent self-harm incident earlier this week, with his family saying he suffered "significant blood loss" and will need surgery, as doctors continue his treatment.

Relatives said his condition is currently "serious but stable," but warned that his recovery is expected to be a lengthy process.

Family Issues New Health Update

In a statement published Saturday on Hilton's official website, PerezHilton.com, Hilton's family sought to address what they described as "false and inaccurate reports" circulating online regarding both his condition and the circumstances surrounding his hospitalization.

They said only statements published directly through PerezHilton.com should be considered official.

The family confirmed that Hilton remains hospitalized under Florida's Baker Act, a law that allows individuals experiencing a mental health crisis to be temporarily detained for evaluation and treatment.

They added that his communication has been limited to immediate family members, medical providers, and others directly involved in his care.

According to the statement, he has not communicated with the media or issued any public statements since being hospitalized.

'Significant Blood Loss' and Surgery Ahead

The most serious details in the family's update concerned the extent of Hilton's injuries.

"Perez's condition remains serious but stable," the statement said. "He experienced significant blood loss and sustained additional injuries that will require surgery in the coming days." The family also cautioned that his treatment and rehabilitation are expected to take considerable time.

Relatives said they were grateful Hilton had recently been able to spend time with his mother and sister as he continues his recovery.

What Happened?

The update follows an incident on August 4 that drew widespread attention online.

According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to reports of an individual livestreaming acts of self-harm on social media from a residence in the Miami area.

Authorities said the person was safely recovered and transported to a hospital. NBC News and People identified the individual as Hilton, whose legal name is Mario Lavandeira.

TikTok told Newsweek that its automated moderation systems detected and flagged the livestream within minutes of it starting. The video was then escalated to human moderators for review, while the company also contacted law enforcement. TikTok removed the livestream after it had been online for about 15 minutes.

The company said it subsequently shut down additional livestreams related to the incident within roughly 90 seconds and permanently banned the account involved.

Family Requests Privacy

Alongside the health update, Hilton's family made a forceful appeal for privacy as they focus on his treatment and recovery.

The statement asked reporters and members of the public to stop gathering outside the family's home, following relatives or photographing Hilton's children. The family said the children remain safe and are being cared for by immediate family members.

"There is absolutely no reason for members of the media or the public to remain outside the family's home," the statement said, while urging photo agencies not to publish or distribute pictures of the children.

What Happens Next?

As of Sunday, the family had not provided a timeline for Hilton's release from the hospital.

However, they said surgery is expected in the coming days and emphasized that his treatment and recovery will be a long-term process.
