When college football fans think of Urban Meyer, many think of his time as head coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes — and for good reason.

Meyer went 83-9 with four bowl wins, three Big Ten championships, and one national championship win in seven seasons.

However, if it wasn’t for what Meyer accomplished during his six-year run at Florida, he likely wouldn’t have gotten the Ohio State opportunity.

Because of his successful tenure in the Swamp that resulted in multiple national championships, the University of Florida announced on Monday, just days before the start of fall camp, that it will be inducting Meyer into the program’s Ring of Honor during its Nov. 7 game against SEC rival Oklahoma.

“I am truly honored and humbled to be selected for the Florida Football Ring of Honor," Meyer said in a release. “My time at Florida holds so many special memories for me and my family. … There is nothing like game day in The Swamp — the energy of 90,000 fans behind you, pushing and willing you to victory.

“The championships were certainly special, but the bonds forged with our players, staff, and countless members of Gator Nation will last a lifetime. I am grateful to have been part of Florida's storied football tradition, and I want to thank Gator Nation for the passion and pride you continue to bring to this program. This recognition means more to me and my family than words can express. Go Gators.”

Meyer coached the Gators from 2005 to 2010, compiling a 65-15 record with three bowl wins, two SEC championships, and two national championships.

He also coached some of the best college football players of the last three decades during that time including quarterback Tim Tebow, wide receiver Percy Harvin, linebacker Brandon Spikes, safety Reggie Nelson, cornerback Joe Haden, and offensive lineman Maurkice Pouncey.
