With October right around the corner, multiple MLB managers are under a lot of pressure to get their teams to the playoffs.

MLB insider Bob Nightengale named two American League managers who are at risk of losing their jobs if their teams miss the postseason.

"In the American League, Seattle Mariners manager Dan Wilson is expected to be fired if the Mariners miss the playoffs, and the same goes for Houston Astros manager Joe Espada," Nightengale wrote.

Where Do The Astros Stand in the Playoff Race?

Espada and the Astros are sitting in a pretty good spot to make the playoffs this season.

Houston has a two-game lead over the Texas Rangers for first place in the American League West. The Astros' 63-61 record is the third-best in the AL behind the Chicago White Sox (64-58) and Tampa Bay Rays (74-48).

If the standings remain the same, the Astros will play in a Wild Card Series against the No. 6 seed. As of Sunday morning, the No. 6 seed would be the Texas Rangers.

Where Do The Mariners Stand in the Playoff Race?

Wilson and the Mariners are in a tougher position than Espada and the Astros.

Seattle is three games behind the AL Wild Card race. There are five others teams (Toronto Blue Jays, Baltimore Orioles, Detroit Tigers, Minnesota Twins and Cleveland Guardians) all battling for the final AL Wild Card spot.

The Mariners have an upcoming series against the Blue Jays at the end of August and a series against the Rangers in September. The Rangers currently hold the last AL Wild Card spot. Therefore, winning these series over the next few weeks will be crucial for the Mariners' playoff hopes and Wilson's job security.
